The Amaizing Cornucopias of the 2020s!

In the past years, Evan has held an August corn function to celebrate the end of the summer in prime corn season.

2024 (8/16): Amaizing Annual Cornucopia: The Inaugural Ear

This was the first corning with the original Founding Cobbers. It took place on the last day of Camp Soundview (where Jordan, Dean, and I worked) and was quite successful! It started because I really wanted some of that farm stand corn dipped in butter and spice, so I walked over down Elwood road and bought some, and invited a bunch of people to enjoy it with me. The dress code was Summer Casual, which was up for interpretation, and I decided it would be fun to take attendance with a question pep style, with the question of what would the event be called. Gina won! The grill was fired up, and spices were applied extremely liberally on our magnificent maize specimens. Garrett, honoraily, drank the customary corn water that housed the ears before our consumption: an honor and tradition to continue for years to come.

Big bag o' corn. Our friend Andrew with his delectable ears. And corn. Corn table.

2025 (8/14): The Kernelval Returns: Rise of Cornhole

And once it came back the next year, it was officially tradition! Now we had more corn, more spice, and more pool. Keeping the attendance sheet alive, you had to put your name, answer to the question, and more importantly, the time you arrived. Anyone who arrived past 6pm (which was EVERYONE but Andrew) had to answer why they were late. Andrew and the other somewhat punctual folks got to amuse-bouche on kielbasa as a reward. This year I found out Jordan didn't eat any corn despite attending last year, but once he tried it, he was BLOWN away by the explosion of flavor and spices, Ratatouille style. It was a happy day, as Thomas and Loaiza brought a myriad of Arizona Ginseng Honey iced teas (my favorite beverage), and of course, cornhole (how didn't we think of that before?) and we ended with one of our favorite games: charades. When all was said and done, the winners of the cornhole tournament were slated to drink the corn water (so losing wouldn't feel as awful), but Alex offered to consume the ceremonial corn water which there was SO MUCH of on account of the increased volume of corn brought this year. We were disappointed because because he actually wanted to drink it. Overall, 2025 was a very successful shindig with several folks!

Jord with Corn. He can eat it! Jord with Corn. He can eat it!
